Armagh City win the Euro Electrix Bob Radcliffe Cup
In what is a traditional Boxing Day showpiece the Euro Electrix Bob Radcliffe Cup Final was delayed this season until May (2021).
Rathfriland Rangers reached the final and were defending the Cup having won it last season for the first in their history. However they faced formidable opposition in Armagh City in a final that will be remembered for some time to come as it was intensely competitive from start to finish. If ever a final was worth waiting on this was it and it was a classic.
Armagh City took an early lead when hat trick hero Conor Mullen opened the scoring on 12 minutes but it was short lived as in less than a minute Rathfriland Rangers were level. That’s how the game ebbed and flowed throughout and Armagh City thought they had done enough when going into a 4-2 lead with only 10 minutes remaining. Not so as Rathfriland’s Johneen Black made it 4 -3 with 5 minutes remaining. It was a nail biting finish for the both sets of supporters, attending their first match for some time, (due to Pandemic lockdown) as Rathfriland piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser. However for Rathfriland it was not to be as Armagh City held out to win and lift the Radcliffe Cup once again.
